Luxury rashguards from The ACQUA Brand

After being diagnosed with melanoma in 2023, sun protection became a non-negotiable part of my everyday life – especially when travelling. I’ve always followed the sun, but now I follow it with more awareness. Long days under tropical skies mean keeping my arms, shoulders and décolletage protected, but for the longest time, I couldn’t find anything that struck the right balance between fashion and function. That changed when I discovered The ACQUA Brand – a luxury Australian swimwear label designing UPF 50+ rashguards and bikini sets that are as elegant as they are protective.

After I shared my melanoma story, the team at ACQUA reached out with kindness and generosity, offering to send me some pieces to try – no obligation. Their designs immediately stood out: minimalist lines, earthy tones, beautiful tailoring, and high-quality construction that didn’t compromise on sun protection. The fabric feels luxe against your skin and moves beautifully in and out of the water – an instant yes for someone who lives in swimwear on island escapes.

TESTING ACQUA IN FIJI

We took The ACQUA Brand to some of the most remote parts of Fiji on our 7-night expedition through the Northern Lau Islands. I wore two key looks in heavy rotation throughout the trip – whether we were hopping onto black zodiacs, diving off the boat into coral gardens, or wandering through remote island villages.

We shot the Chocolate Long Sleeve Rashguard at Vatu-i-Ra Conservation Park and Makogai Island. The rich, on-trend tone felt sophisticated and luxe against the vibrant reef and volcanic cliffs. The high neckline and long sleeves gave me peace of mind under the intense sun, while the zip-front allowed me to adjust for comfort throughout the day.

Later in the trip, we captured the Khaki Long Sleeve Rashguard and High-Waist Bikini Briefs on one of the most pristine, private islands of the journey – Vatuvara, also known as Hat Island. The earthy green hue blended seamlessly with the natural tones of the landscape, from the dense vegetation to the untouched coral sand. This look felt effortlessly elevated, with just the right amount of structure and ease. I wore it with a simple sarong and a straw cowboy hat between swims, and it easily transitioned from ocean to island.

SUN PROTECTION MEETS STYLE

These pieces didn’t just look good – they worked hard. With UPF 50+ fabric, I could spend full days snorkelling, kayaking and beachcombing without constantly reapplying sunscreen. And unlike most rash vests I’ve tried in the past, these ones felt considered. The cuts are flattering. The palette is refined. And the pieces dry quickly, so you’re not left in a soggy mess post-swim.

They’re now a permanent part of my travel wardrobe – pieces I’ll reach for again and again.

Here’s what I wore and loved:

Sizing note: I found these true to size with a flattering, tailored fit. The fabric has a smooth stretch but holds shape beautifully.

FAQs

What is UPF swimwear?
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. It’s like SPF, but for clothing. A rating of UPF 50+ means the fabric blocks over 98% of harmful UVA and UVB rays – essential for anyone spending long hours in the sun, especially near reflective water surfaces.

Can rashguards really be stylish?
Absolutely. The ACQUA Brand proves that sun-safe doesn’t mean sacrificing style. Their pieces are designed with clean lines, flattering silhouettes, and a colour palette that feels modern and elevated.

As someone who built a career chasing summer, sun safety is now a personal passion – and something I feel a responsibility to talk about. Whether you’ve had your own skin cancer scare or just want to protect your skin while travelling, I highly recommend adding a beautiful, high-quality rashguard to your holiday wardrobe. It’s one of the best things you can pack – and your skin will thank you.
