I know it seems like I’m always on vacay, but when I’m travelling for TIL, I’m working everyday. Not that shooting for the site ever feels like work, but sometimes I need a break from social media, run sheets, shot lists and hotel life. The best weekends are the ones where I can catch up with friends, switch off the phone, drink red wine and get back to real life. So a few weeks ago I popped up to the Gold Coast for the Easter long weekend to hang out with my buddy Tess from Ames Collective. With a cute little beach house (and soul deck studio) overlooking the incredible Currumbin Beach, my home away from home couldn’t be more perfect.
I was planning on a shoot-free weekend, but with Parisian-based photographer Ash Kelleher in town, that was never going to happen. The guys picked me up from the airport and surprised me with a road trip to Byron Bay – and the best thing about it, was that we had no set plans. Our day was action-packed, yet super chilled out. Tess is sponsored by Rhythm, so Ash shot her on the side of the road in her gear as he checked the surf. We did some underwater shooting, beers and lunch at The Treehouse on Belongil Beach, and headed out to The Pass for a quick surf as the sun went down. All in all a really awesome Easter, with really awesome people.
Photography (of Tess and I) by Ash Kelleher, car-group-selfie by Tess Willcox, all other shots by me.
