What to wear sightseeing in summer

Farfetch Partner.

When I travel, fashion plays a big role in my planning process. Having the right pieces is a priority for me – just because I’m travelling, doesn’t mean I need to sacrifice style for practicality and comfort.

While packing pieces for island hopping is easy, finding pieces to wear while exploring dry land can be a little more tricky. If I’m walking around all day I want something comfortable, but it can’t be too casual. I needs to be something I can wear into a restaurant, and of course, something that looks good in photos.

So to help you pack for your next vacay, here is one of my favourite looks for adventures that require more than a bikini:

THE OUTFIT

I love a two-piece outfit and no one does it better than Cecilie Copenhagen. This shorts and long sleeve top combo is the perfect thing to wear when you’re out sightseeing in a hot and sunny destination. The long sleeves are ideal for summer as the woven cotton is super breathable and keeps your arms cool in the scorching sun. The statement print is inspired by a traditional keffiyeh scarf and I love how effortlessly it works with the relaxed silhouettes of these pieces.

I’ve matched this breezy outfit with a pair of sneakers that are just as comfortable. When you’re out and about sightseeing, you can easily spend the entire day on your feet. That’s why it’s important that when I am travelling, I have comfy sneakers that can work with all types of outfits including dresses and skirts. These Nike’s are monochrome so they go with everything in my suitcase, and the woven style makes them super light and just that little bit more special.

THE ACCESSORIES

When I pack accessories for a trip, I always make sure they can go with the majority of my outfits. With my cameras, underwater housing and the drone, I’m overweight with my luggage as it is – so need to keep my accessories to the minimum. I usually stick to a neutral palette – that way I can pair my bags and sunglasses with everything in my suitcase.

I have a proper camera backpack that I use when I’m in transit or doing a shoot where I need all of my camera gear. But if I’m just heading out for a day of sightseeing, I usually just carry my camera and a spare lens. This super soft slouchy leather tote by Furla is the perfect size and fits everything I need for a day exploring.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you may have noticed my Furla ‘Metropolis Mini’ obsession. I have this bag in a few colours now, but I’m so excited about my new white calf leather version with a top handle. I like my phone, money, tickets, lip-gloss and keys to be within close reach – so I love using these tiny cross-body bags to hold my essentials.

These understated polarised sunglasses by Garrett Leight are actually my boyfriend’s favourite style. He has them in the champagne colour and on our last trip I wore them a lot. So it’s only fair that I stick to the unisex theme and choose the black version of his favourite Garrett Leight’s, so he can wear them while we are away too.
