The sports luxe trend is still dominating the fashion scene, but there seems to be a bit of confusion. Sports luxe isn’t about wearing head-to-toe lycra to brunch, it’s about mixing sporty elements into your outfit to create a look that’s inspired by the spirit of athleticism, not your spin class instructor.
That’s what I love about Bondi-born label First Base. Their pieces embody the active lifestyle around surf and skate culture – think great basics, with a sportswear slant. Marle grey bras, cropped mesh tees, racerback singlets, slouchy shorts and distressed denim dominate the understated collection, with Bondi Beach acting as the ultimate muse.
While I love everything First Base, I’m particularly obsessed with anything mesh and marle grey. This bra-shorts-shirt-combo incorporates some of my favourite new pieces from the collection. We shot this outfit at sunrise on the rocks at South Curl Curl Beach in Sydney. This shoot was part of another project – if you look closely at these pictures, you’ll notice a microphone cord stuck to my back and transmitter attached to my First Base shorts. Epic Byron Bay-based photographer Carly Brown flew down especially for this shoot – squeezing in a crazy whirlwind 12-hours in Sydney, before flying back home for another beach shoot at the crack of dawn.
