MALDIVES WEATHER BY MONTH

The best time go for the perfect island escape.

When I first started THIS ISLAND LIFE® back in 2010, I used to meticulously plan my tropical getaways around the “best time to visit” recommendations. I’d consult every weather chart and travel forum I could find, convinced that if I booked during the dry season, I’d be guaranteed blue skies and sunshine.

But over the years, especially with the effects of global warming, I’ve realised that weather is far less predictable—particularly in tropical destinations like the Maldives. I’ve experienced wild storms during the so-called best months, and basked in perfect sunshine right in the middle of monsoon season.

As a travel content creator, I often get hosted by resorts during the off-season, when availability is higher. And you know what? Some of my most memorable island experiences have happened during rainy days. In fact, the Maldives is one of the few places in the world where bad weather doesn’t ruin a holiday. Picture this: a massage in an overwater spa while listening to the gentle patter of rain on the Indian Ocean, or swimming in warm, turquoise waters during a tropical shower. Bliss.

Weather is one of those things you simply can’t control, so I’ve learned to embrace it. And I’ve created some of my favourite content in the rain. If it pours on your trip, book a spa treatment, order a bottle of champagne, and keep your camera ready for when the sun makes its inevitable return.

I’ve also linked my Maldives resort reviews to the months we visited, so you can get a better idea of what the weather was actually like in real life. As you’ll see – we rarely visit during the “best” seasons.
