Big waves on the big screen

Last week we were lucky enough to get tickets to the premiere of Tim Bonython’s Australian Surf Movie Festival. Now in its tenth year, the festival highlight this year is IMMERSION – an epic surf film that’s been in the making for six years. As someone who still surfs in the white wash, the waves in this film scared the shit out of me. Bonython has captured footage of some of the biggest waves in the northern and southern hemisphere including Jaws, Mavericks, Teahupo’o, Cloudbreak, The Right and Shipstern. The film also features a bunch of interviews with pro surfers and colourful surfing identities.

The show is split into two 50-minute halves with an intermission that features local musicians playing an acoustic set and some pretty sweet lucky door prizes. After three sold out screenings the guys have added extra Sydney shows including North Bondi RSL, Harbord Diggers and Palm Beach RSL.

See you there or in the white wash.
