This Island Life has been invited to cover Australia’s most prestigious fashion event, Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.  Running from May 2-6, most of the shows will be taking place at the Overseas Passenger Terminal down at Circular Quay, with an array of designers showcasing their collections off-site. It’s going to be one hell of an exciting week and I personally can’t wait to see what we’re all going to be wearing here in Australia next summer. And with the country’s most fashionable all congregating in the one location, the fashion off the catwalk is just as good as it is on.

Now unfortunately I’m still moonlighting in the fashion industry – my day job is a freelance copywriter in the world of advertising. So while I’d love to attend back-to-back shows all week, I’m going to have to be quite selective about the shows I check out. Top of the list are Josh Goot who is finally returning to the Aussie catwalk after years of showing in New York and London, my personal favourites Gary Bigeni, Marnie Skillings, Zimmermann and Arnsdorf, swimwear designer Lisa Maree presenting her first individual show, Nookie, Karla Spetic and of course the Group Swimwear and New Generation shows.

Special guests this year will be UK fashion blogger Susanna Lau of Style Bubble, who is also out here guest blogging for Sportsgirl on their re-launched website (I need to hook something like this up for next year I think). Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil, Phil Oh of Streetpeeper and Imran Amed of Business of Fashion are also all in town for the shows. Australian model Jessica Gomes is the official ambassador, model-of-the-moment Bambi Northwood-Blyth has returned from her working stint in Europe to hit the runway and eighties supermodel Yasmin Le Bon will be walking for her BFF Gail Elliot’s label Little Joe Women. And if the rumours are true (oh god PLEASE let them be true), Kanye West has flown out ahead of his Splendor in the Grass performance and will be making a front row appearance.

Make sure you follow This Island Life on Facebook and Twitter for all your Rosemount Australian Fashion Week fabulousness.
